When it came time for the science fiction novel, Ender's Game, to be transformed into a movie, Audi jumped at the chance to design the futuristic car that would be used in the film. As we prepare for the debut of the movie on November 1, 2013, we thought we'd go over the details regarding this flashy new model.
In order to create the perfect vision of a futuristic vehicle, the Audi design team drew inspiration from the automaker's fleet shuttle quattro, while incorporating advanced technology. This will actually be the first occasion where Audi has produced a purely virtual model within a feature film. Gavin Hood, the Ender's Game director, collaborated with the automaker to develop the perfect balance of futurism and technology, while still making it appear natural in its environment.
Chief Designer for the Ender's Game film project, Frank Rimili, uncovers the process further, explaining, "Designing the Audi Fleet Shuttle Quattro was comparable to tailoring a made-to-measure suit. We adapted it to the requirements of the world in 'Ender's Game' and, at the same time, ensured that we preserved our brand values. Ultimately, we were able to project our design philosophy perfectly onto the fictional world of the movie."1
Here at Jim Ellis Audi of Marietta, we are certainly quite excited to see the virtual model on the big screen, and to see what Audi's vision of a futuristic vehicle entails. It will also be staring alongside well-known actors Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld and many others.
