Some of you may remember back in the day when it wasn't the internet that had the answer to all your car questions, but a thick and daunting owner's manual that did. While today's new Audi models still come with the book that none of us like to read, this could soon be a thing of the past.
Several automakers are now looking to find alternative methods of presenting this resource to drivers. Audi has decided to try its own innovative approach by developing an app that would take the place of an owner's manual. By using augmented reality instead, drivers will be able to have all of their car questions answered.
What is augmented reality you might ask? It's a concept in which you view the real-world through the lens of a device like a computer, phone or camera. In this instance, using a smartphone camera you'll be able to hold it up to specific Audi parts and receive feedback on how it is used/what it does. Metaio, the software developing company confirmed that over 300 parts will be recognizable by the app.
Known as the eKurzinfo app, this technology will be unveiled on the Audi A1 model, and will be then introduced to the A3 sedan as well once it makes its way to the U.S. Here at Jim Ellis Audi Marietta, we are quite excited to see how this idea develops further in the future. You never know, the owner's manual could potentially be done away with all together!
