Earlier this year, Audi showed off some impressive laserlight technology at the Consumer Electronics Show. It also promised a production version of the technology later this year. And, it seems it has finally arrived.
Audi has announced a limited edition R8 LMX that will be equipped with a laser module in each headlight that will illuminate the road up to 1,640 feet ahead. Not only does this special edition get super-powered headlights, but it also gets a more powerful engine. It will pump out 570 horsepower from its V10 engine and will reach 62 mph in only 3.4 seconds.
Additional exclusive features include Ara Blue paint, carbon fiber accents, unique wheels, red brake calipers, and black Nappa leather seating with blue highlights.
Unfortunately, there are two downsides. One is that there will only be 99 examples produced and even worse, it won't be available here in the United States, since federal law prohibits the laserlight technology on the road.
Maybe as the technology advances even more, the law will be changed and we can get some lasers on our Audi cars.
