The Audi R8 is in its second generation and it's going to be making some noise in the supercar sector of the car market. Audi is bringing not only a plug-in hybrid model of this cruiser, but also a pure electric model. These two models, inspired by the innovations made to the Lamborghini, hope to make leaps and bounds when coupling radical power and fuel efficiency. Audi's aim is as early as 2015.
"We are able to make the R8 a plug-in hybrid," Ulrich Hackenberg, head of Audi's research and development department, told Car. "The Lamborghini Asterion shows this is possible -- that car uses the platform of the R8. We will see an increase in the efficiency of high-performance cars -- they have to meet CO2 regulations of the future in order to survive."
With the CO2 reduction goals set for 2025 for all cars in the US, even supercars have a lot of work ahead to get down to the fuel efficiency expected of every vehicle on the road. We still have a little while before we see everything that the electric Audi R8 is going to do bring with the model, but Jim Ellis Audi Marietta will be here to give you all the updates.
