If the electric vehicle (EV) race was the story of the tortoise and the hare, Audi would be the tortoise and every other automaker would be the hare. Audi has been taking the slow and methodical approach, and it’s allowed them to come up with great new technologies like the new 48-volt electric system, which will be deployed in two prototypes. That new technology seeks to improve acceleration and efficiency in slightly hybridized versions of the A6 TDI and RS 5 TDI.

"We are using the full bandwidth of electrification in our drive principles strategy. Running part of the vehicle electrical system at 48 volts plays a central role in this," commented Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi. "It enables us to make more energy available. That paves the way for new technologies with which we can make our cars more sporty, more efficient and more convenient to use."

This new hybrid technology marks another step forward in the tortoise's slow but steady progress to the finish line, and we look forward to seeing how the 48-volt system will be used in the future. We also look forward to seeing the next steps in Audi's path to EV nirvana. In the meantime, come see us at Jim Ellis Audi Marietta to check out our inventory today.
