It's a new year and you've likely jotted down a few resolutions to make 2015 even better than 2014—or at least thought about a few habits you would change. While there's still time to make resolutions, might we at Jim Ellis Audi Marietta suggest a few New Year’s driving resolutions?
1. No Texting and Driving.
While we all know this is a dangerous habit, many of us still whip out our phones when we hear the text message alert ping even though we are behind the wheel. This year, commit to exercising a bit more self-control in this department and keep your phone tucked away while you drive.
2. No Drinking and Driving.
Again, we all know this is a bad idea; however, it can be easier than you think to get in the driver's seat less than sober if you haven't made arrangements for another way home. Be sure to prepare in advance for a designated driver or a taxi and stick with your plan. It could save your life or someone else's.
3. Follow the Speed Limit.
This may be one of the hardest resolutions to follow, especially if you find yourself frequently running late. However, speed plays a factor in 30% of deaths caused by motor vehicles. It’s worth it to take your time and plan to leave earlier, maybe even save yourself a ticket or two.
4. Wear the Seatbelt.
We understand the seatbelt has never been anyone's favorite friend to hang out with; but, it has been a friend in saving lives, saving people from about 50% of serious crash-related injuries and deaths as a matter of fact. Find a comfortable height for your seatbelt and stick to wearing it every time you get in the car.
