Plug-in hybrids aren't just here to stay -- they're here to
take over. We at Jim Ellis Audi Marietta think the new Audi R8 e-tron is just
the car to make that statement.
At the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker presented the second generation of the acclaimed sports car, including its e-tron variant. This time, Audi itself is producing the high-voltage battery, whose capacity has grown from 49 kWh to approximately 92 kWh.
The battery has also been repackaged and better-positioned in the car, to optimally support the R8 e-tron's driving dynamics with a low center of gravity. But what you'll probably want to know is that the car more than doubled its electric range to 280 miles (450 km), thanks to the improved battery and other modifications.
The on-board Combined Charging System will allow it to charge with direct and alternating currents, making it possible to fully charge the battery in "significantly less than two hours."
For all the details on the e-tron and its more conventional counterpart, head over to the official press release.
