Audi Prologue Concept Shows Audi’s New Design Language
Over the past decade, Audi had a clear and distinctive design language that reflected luxury, understatement and technology. This current DNA could be traced all the way back to the Nuvolari Concept which Audi introduced in 2003. It has been a really long time, so it was clear to Audi that they had to turn things around and refresh the looks of their vehicles. Jim Ellis Audi - Marietta is ready to assist you.
That’s what Marc Lichte did this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As the new Head of Design, Lichte took a new direction with Audi’s design strategy and created one modern full-size luxury coupe, the Audi Prologue Concept. “Audi stands for sportiness, lightweight design and the quattro permanent all-wheel drive.” Marc Lichte explains the new character of the vehicle: “In the Audi prologue, we are expressing this know-how in a new form – we have put the sportiest car in the luxury segment on wheels. Our team took new approaches in both exterior and interior design.”
The design speaks of itself. In the front, the single-frame grill is still present, but now it’s extremely wide and much narrower. The headlights feature Audi’s latest technology in laser lighting. The rear also has a fresh look, (although some people critiqued it) it features a concaved rear window, and a taillight that wraps around the whole end of the car.
What’s more interesting, is the new interior. It is packed to the fullest with everything Audi has. Almost the whole dashboard is filled with touch-screens, eliminating the use of any conventional buttons. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is also present in the interior.
Under the bonnet of the Audi Prologue concept, is a 4.0 L V8 strapped between two big turbochargers that pump 605 PS and 700 Nm. The car also feature what’s called Overboost Mode which adds another 50 Nm of torque for 15 seconds, pulling this two door coupe to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Overall, this concept clearly shows Audi’s intention to change the design language of the future A8, whether they’ll name it the A8 coupe or the rumored A10.
