By now, we have all heard about the refugee crisis in Europe, with thousands and thousands of people attempting to flee the war-torn Middle East and find safety in Europe. Audi, which is based in Germany, wants to help and has pledged €1 million in emergency aid to help these refugees.
Audi General Works Council Chairman Peter Mosch, said in a statement, "We must not and we will not stand passively by when it comes to helping our fellow human beings in this desperate situation. We Audi employees are always there to help when it's important – and it's more important now than ever before."
The funds will be directed towards local aid initiatives at Audi's production sites in Ingolstadt, Germany; Neckarsulm, Germany; Brussels, Belgium, and Gy?r, Hungary. Audi employees will now be able to suggest aid projects through the Audi Volunteers program. The Corporate Responsibility committees at each location will then evaluate the suggested projects and distribute the funds, as needed.
In addition to the emergency aid, Audi volunteers have also renovated homes for underage migrants to live in and organized short trips for refugee children. Audi is also looking for ways to provide long-term job opportunities for refugees.
Here at Jim Ellis Audi Marietta, we are proud to see our European counterparts working so hard to welcome these refugees and find ways to help them.
